Selected Important Safety Information What is the most important information I should know about Saxenda®? Serious side effects may happen in people who take Saxenda®, including: Possible thyroid tumors, including cancer. Tell your health care professional if you get a lump or swelling in your neck, hoarseness, trouble swallowing, or shortness of breath. These may be symptoms of thyroid cancer. In studies with rats and mice, Saxenda® and medicines that work like Saxenda® caused thyroid tumors, including thyroid cancer. It is not known if Saxenda® will cause thyroid tumors or a type of thyroid cancer called medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) in people. Do not use Saxenda® if you or any of your family have ever had MTC, or if you have an endocrine system condition called Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2). Saxenda® Dosing Schedule
Your prescription of Saxenda® contains enough medication for 30 days, if on maintenance dose of 3 mg. Below is a simple dosing schedule to guide you through the starting dosage of 0.6 mg to the full dosage of 3 mg.
Use Saxenda® exactly as prescribed by your health care professional. After you start Saxenda®, your dose should be increased weekly until you reach the 3-mg dose. If you have any questions, call your health care professional.
Nausea is the most common side effect when first starting Saxenda®, but decreases over time in most people as their body gets used to the medicine. For additional side effects, please refer to the Medication Guide.
Saxenda® Dosing Schedule (if you started with sample kit pen)
Take medication once daily any time. Starting dose is 0.6 mg per day for 1 week. Increase each week until dose is 3 mg or as prescribed by your health care professional.
Stay on treatment schedule by filling your prescription before completing 17 doses. On day 18, use a new pen from your filled prescription to continue treatment.
